Technology Classroom Building, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Los Angeles, CA
The Technology Classroom Building is one of two buildings on this prominent site in downtown Los Angeles that forms the new campus entrance. The building is designed to double the college’s current technology related curriculum and provide a multipurpose conference center with banquet room, commercial kitchen and two sloped floor lecture theaters. The design provides an economical and optimal floor plate to give the college maximum flexibility for adaptation in the future. The eccentric brace frame structural system allows maximum light and views to offices and classrooms while efficiently managing material costs, saving precious budget resources for campus-defining surface materials of brick and stone. Like the adjacent Student Services/ Administration Building, curvature of the steel and framing for the building skin was modeled using BIM software and practices. The building optimizes energy performance at a level 42% more efficient than Title 24.
