The Los Angeles Leadership Academy Lincoln Heights Middle School will occupy an existing 1920s-era building that formerly housed an orphanage. Johnson Favaro created a design plan for this 26,000 SF adaptive re-use project that would transform the existing building into an educational facility with sixteen classrooms, a multi purpose room, outdoor assembly room and faculty offices. Exiting and ADA requirements prompted the need to design and build a new three story stair and elevator tower, whose facade would complete the existing U-shaped courtyard transforming it into the outdoor assembly room.
