Shoppers Lane Redevelopment
CLIENT:City of Pasadena
This project addresses pragmatic exigencies facing the Lake Avenue commercial corridor as well as critical deficiencies of the existing site affecting livability of the surrounding residential neighborhood. These include the parking demand generated by the reemergence of the Lake Avenue commercial corridor and the inadequate visual and functional relationship between the commercial establishments along Shoppers Lane, the surface parking lots, the vehicular circulation system that serves them and the surrounding residential neighborhood. The project consists of three 4-level, 600-car parking structures upon which are placed 60 for-rent residential units in 2-story "plinth" buildings. Around these are 25 for-sale units in 3 and 4-story "skirt" buildings for a total of 85 units per block The "skirt" housing conceals three sides of each structure, most importantly, those which face the residential neighborhood to the east. A park at the center makes a pedestrian connection between the residential neighborhood and Lake Avenue.
